Megan Vander Meer

Head Coach, Director of Indoor Development

Athletic Career

Megan has been an active volleyball player for nearly two decades — but before she transformed into a decorated collegiate athlete, was honored with the prestigious All-American title (twice!), or ever dreamed of playing professionally, her volleyball journey began when she was just ten years old.  As a youngster, she played for Carpe Diem Volleyball Club (Grand Rapids, MI) under the direction of her parents from ages 10-18.  She then enrolled at Ferris State University and not only played, but started all four years of college (2012-2015).

Although Megan’s primary position was middle blocker during her formative club years, she welcomed the chance to take on new player roles at FSU.  As a freshman, her first stint was as a three-rotation right side hitter.  By sophomore year, she was promoted to all-round right side and capped off her final years as an all-round outside hitter.  In addition to garnering many individual accomplishments during her tenure at FSU, Megan’s team made it to the regional tournament every year (2012-2015), earned a bid to the Division II NCAA Elite Eight Tournament (2013), and became two-time defending champions of the GLIAC Conference and the annual GLIAC Tournament (2014 & 2015).

After graduation, Megan realized she wanted to keep playing volleyball for as long as she could.  Unfazed by the lack of post-collegiate opportunities within the USA, she successfully navigated her way into multiple contracts with professional volleyball leagues overseas.  To this day, Megan is grateful to be playing the sport she fell in love with as a child and aspires to be a lifelong learner of the game!

Coaching Expertise

While working Summer camps at FSU, Megan discovered another facet of volleyball that she was passionate about:  Coaching!  She eventually went back to her roots and assumed a coaching position for Carpe Diem Volleyball Club, instructing both girls and boys teams for a few Spring sessions.  In 2021, Megan functioned as Assistant Coach to the Men’s Club Volleyball Team at Davenport University, supporting her oldest brother, Doc Vander Meer, in his Head Coaching role.

Megan’s most recent coaching endeavor has involved working with an organization called All American Volleyball Camps (Summer:  2021 & 2022).  Through AAVC, she’s been able develop her own coaching philosophies, create practice plans, and solo-direct three-day instructional skills camps at almost 30 different high schools around the Midwest.
